A pitbull dog has been seized from a Jonathan Street property after a dog ranger was bitten during a visit to the dog owner's home.
Three police cars arrived at the Brookfield house on Monday to assist a dog ranger who sustained a minor bite to the hand.
Police were called to the Brookfield home where a dog ranger was bitten.
Tauranga City Council animal services team leader Brent Lincoln says the man was bitten by the two-year-old pitbull. He did not receive medical treatment at the scene.
'The guy went there to investigate a complaint and other things came to light at the time. I guess that's why the dog was seized, it wasn't seized for actually barking,” says Brent.
Neighbours at the scene say the dog is young, hasn't been at the address long and still cries when left outside. Since the SPCA visited last week there have been no problems, says the neighbour.
SPCA inspector Jason Blair confirmed to SunLive that he visited the young pit bull dog last week over a small issue. He could not say what the issue was.
Brent says animal services are still investigating the dog and need to talk to the dog owner.
'Once that part's concluded the dog will more than likely be returned home to the owner. What'll happen is the owner will be spoken to by one of our guys, then as a result of that and any other information we have, we will make a decision in relation to what action we take in relation to it - that varies between a warning or a fine basically.”

It's ok if it bites a Ranger??? Likely to be returned home to owner? Who is it going to bite next time, maybe one of the many children who wander by regularly? A permanent muzzle, at the very least.
WHY?!

Why is there STILL such an issue with this awful breed of dogs! Seriously what has to happen to get them banned from this country or highly restricted? Our Dog Laws need to be more strict and enforced!
bad dog

The heading overkill is in regard to the amount of police cars at this scene. Unless of course there is more to this than just a dog biting a ranger then so be it. As for this breed of dog the sooner they are outlawed the better as they are no good for anything except trouble. Look how many people have been injured by this typre of dog and others like it, not forgetting the people who have been killed by them and cross bred variants of them

Too be honest, it's the owners fault and there is nothing wrong with the breed. It is how you bring up and train your dog. As I have a pitbull. She is a very out going dog and friendly.

I know a Postie who was attacked but 3 cop cars didn't turn up. It must have been a really bad dog. Or maybe there is a different level of response if a dog ranger is attacked.
3 cops and a dog

Who would want to be a dog ranger and approach properties such as this one in Jonathon St unsuppoerted? Not only was the dog unsafe/inadequately disciplined it looks like the people are too. I wonder what the other things were that "came to light"?

Hope the dog ranger was ok sad to see a lack of concern for those who go out and work the streets for our safty.
