What a blast from the past to see the name Walker Inman come up on the Rabbits radar last week in your column. You have painted a party picture that was par for the course for many of these colorful characters who sailed the seven seas looking for the meaning of life.
Back in the day in the mid 1980s when I looked after the rich 'n famous on a tropical island that was home to George Harrison among other A listers, Walker Inman known as Skipper and his wife Daralee showed up aboard their yacht Devine Decadence.
We were well averse to the outrageously rich who walked on the wild side and Walker was way up there on the outrageous richter scale. He would produce his Gold USA Sheriff's Shield that was absolutely real and give the orders. One of them was having us organise a helicopter full of five thousand red roses dropped on to his wife for her birthday as she sunbathed on the deck of Devine Decadence. This was a time when Elton would show up for dinner wearing a full bridal gown and Jimmy Barnes and Jimmy Buffett would belt out the ballads all night long.
Sad to hear Skipper has sailed on home and crossed the seven seas for the last time. Tommy Wilson, Te Puna.
