Fun day on the water with Dad

It was a fun day on the water for families who visited the Tauranga Yacht Club's Family Fun Sail in celebration of Fathers' Day today.

Tauranga Yacht Club members made their keelboats, catamarans and skippering skills available for families to get a fun taste of sailing on Sunday. While it is a fundraiser for the yacht club's coaching programme, everyone was invited to get actively involved in sailing, or simply enjoy quality time spent with their dads on Fathers' Day.

A club open day was also held today with displays and information on the upcoming junior ‘learn to sail' courses, the fast and exciting multihulls, the hugely successful Women on Water, and the other club divisions.

Two lucky Tauranga families got the chance to sail on boat owner Mark Thomas' sailing boat ‘Satchmo' – a sailing boat nicknamed after American jazz musician Louis Armstrong. 'They had done very little or no sailing before.

Hopefully there were some budding young sailors on board.” Mark says about 150 people turned out to the Family Fun Sail today.

Phil and Tom, 10, Maidement spent some quality time together for Fathers' day.
