The Kiwi kite surfer has landed top of the podium after claiming his first ever world tour win at the freestyle competition in Sankt Peter-Ording, Germany.

Light winds forced organisers to run all 58 heats of the single and double elimination rounds on the same day. After winning the single eliminations, Jacobs battled it out against Spanish kite boarder Alex Pastor.

Jacobs' loss in the first heat in the double elimination round saw the pair battling it out in a super final.

A combination of aerial tricks saw the 23-year-old closing in on his opponent to win his first PKRA title with a 37.01 score.

The newly crowned champion says he is 'stoked” with his first place win.

Known by his fans and friends as MJ, he has been kite boarding for about seven years, using the 'pristine surf beaches” at Mount Maunganui and Pukehina.

He says the win has brought him one step closer to fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming world champion.

His next stop on the world tour is the Fuerteventura Kite boarding PKRA Grand Slam in Spain at the end of the month.
