#nombar a sell out snack bar

The Papamoa Lions Market had a unique addition to the list of stallholders today as the #nombar went on sale for the first time.

The #nombar, a kiwifruit snack bar created by Otumoetai College group ‘Royala Enterprise' through the Young Enterprise Scheme, went on sale to the public for the first time today.

Their idea, a 35g bar, filled with locally-grown macadamia nuts, rewarewa honey, heilala vanilla and kiwifruit, sold out at the Palm Beach Plaza Papamoa Lions Markets today.

Royala Enterprise managing director Zeenat Azad says the group aimed to sell 50 bars at the markets and was surprised they ended up selling all of them – and more.

'We are planning on going to the Mount Markets next weekend.”

The #nombar is also selling at Tauranga Boys' College, Tauranga Girls' College and Papamoa College school canteens.

It was an eating sound 'om nom nom” which sparked the idea for the bar's name, says Zeenat.

'It kind of just clicked.”

Zeenat says the hash tag (#), which is used when chatting about student interests on social media sites such as Instagram, is a strategy to target their student audience.

'When you're talking about it on social media sites, you hash tag it, so people can click on it and see what it actually is.”

In keeping with their "environmentally" friendly theme, Zeenat says the compostable wrapper is a unique feature of the bar.

The Young Enterprise Scheme is a learning programme offering students the opportunity to create a business and run it for a year.

To help them with marketing and product development, the group has secured a partnership with Tauranga's award winning global export company ‘Kiwifruitz'– Kiwifruit Processing Company Ltd.

The group is hoping to represent the region at the Young Enterprise National Awards in Wellington later this year.

If you would like to get your hands on a #nombar, contact the group at: [email protected] or go to their Facebook page. Bars cost $2.50.

They're not the first people to use 'compostable'/ decomposable packaging for a muesli bar? Maybe do some better research before making claims like that ?
