Hockey fans, both young and old, are invited to pick up a hockey stick and try out the new Tauranga Hockey Turf today.
The first annual Tauranga Masters Hockey 7-a-side tournament sees hockey players, from social to professional, take to the turf.
Organiser Alan Prestage says the tournament is not restricted to club members. It is more of an opportunity for hockey parents, who usually cheer from the side-line, to test the brand new turf.
'We've got a couple of players who haven't played since they left school. It's an opportunity to get some exercise and get out there.
'It's more about coming to have some fun and getting some exercise.”
People are invited to register a team of seven in the men, women, or mixed grade section. There are prizes for the winning teams and a café on-site.
The tournament runs 11am-3pm.
