Grease is the word

Eager fans are getting dolled up in their most fancy 50s gear ahead of tonight's Baypark Drive-In Movies premiere.

The week long film festival begins this evening with a sold-out viewing of the 1978 classic Grease musical that will entice classic car lovers, roller girls and rock n roll fans to the ASB stadium.

Caren Glazer, Roanne Rennie, Sonia Hodge and Dave and Lynette Gillies dressing up to promote the Drive in Movies.

The popular Mount Militia Derby waitresses, who appeared at the inaugural festival in 2011, return and Rydell High ‘actors' will be mingling with movie goers and hanging at the onsite American styled diner.

The festival, presented by Bayfair, has been a social media hit with a popular facebook page and movie listings on eventfinda receiving a combined 200,000 views.

'There's something about Drive-In Movies that captures people's imagination,” says ASB Baypark business manager Karen Gemmell.

'Kicking back in the comfort of your car watching your favourite movie on a massive screen, you just can't capture that experience at home or in a theatre”.

In a lead up to the premiere tonight Z service station at Central Parade dressed in theme, played the famous theme songs, and rolled through classic cars today.

Z Energy Retailer Dave Gillies says the service station decided to get behind the local event, with most sites in Tauranga dressing up for the occasion.

'Guys around our sites, just want to go for it and support all the local events.”

Dave's 1960 thunderbird made an appearance at the station today, but unfortunately won't be at Baypark tonight, as the event is sold out.

Remaining movies include The Avengers, Raiders of the Lost, Anchorman, Back to the Future, Evil Dead II, Dirty Dancing, Fast and Furious 5 and Cars.
