A busy news week, including flooding around the region, has shown SunLive.co.nz is the leading local 24 hour news service - and the latest figures prove it.
From the early hours of Saturday morning SunLive.co.nz reporters and photographers were out in the floods keeping readers up to date with all the latest as local residents battled waterlogged homes and streets.
We continued this coverage, 24 hours a day, the only news organisation to do so, sending civil defence advice and road closures directly to readers via email to keep them informed.
Today SunLive's success was marked with a milestone achievement - recording its highest audience yet, proving it is the leading and most-read news outlet in the region.
According to the latest Nielsen Media Market Intelligence Report released today, SunLive is the fourth most viewed online news outlet in the country last week - coming in only behind stuff.co.nz, nzherald.co.nz and odt.co.nz in the News & Magazines category.
In the last week SunLive.co.nz had a total of 402,763 page impressions or hits - leaving other regional dailies trailing with just 150,000.
It has at least 45,000 unique browsers each week, and on average at least 11,000 people view the site every day.
So what makes SunLive.co.nz so successful?
Through the use of the latest and most innovative technology and social media including online reports and video footage, SunLive is able to deliver news from the scenes of emergency situations and breaking news events at near real-time speeds directly to the reader – wherever they are.
Our biggest goal at the SunLive newsroom at No.1 The Strand is to get fast, accurate information on events affecting our readers as it happens.
Through our email-delivered ‘breaking news' and road update service we can keep readers informed of all the latest events around the region.
Our midday email news bulletins also provide all the latest news each day – providing timely and free news daily.
Sun Media general manager Ross Brown says sunlive.co.nz's success is due to the hard work put in by a dedicated team of journalists and photographers who work to provide up to date news 24 hours a day.
'We are sitting right up there with overseas-owned corporate media news services.”
As a locally owned news service we have a team of dedicated reporters who work and live in the community, understand what is important to our readers, and have an interest in providing the most transparent and accurate information to that community.
But we also rely on our readers to tell us what is important to them.
We want you to be our eyes and ears, let us know what is happening in the community, become a ‘citizen reporter'.

The BOP Times was built on a local paper then got brought out and corporatized. After 30 years of subscribing I finally cancelled my subscription because the Sun rocks. All up to date and no stale news. Keep it up. Congrats!
Well deserved!

Sunlive's success is proof of the worth of private companies to our economy. No Council or Government subsidy, no bleating for handouts, no secret deals, just good fair competition. Let's hope though that some of the councillors don't decide it would be good for Council to get into the media business.
Great website

For sure, many others are very hard to get around so no surprise that useage reflects how well it is rated, go The Sun, down with that "other" grubby rag!

Being a rural reader, I find Sunlive so very accessable, whenever I wish to read any news etc. We are unable to get news with BOP Times, on public holidays, as the paper is now only sent when the rural post is delivering. Whereas we can read Sunlive anytime !!!! Very proud to be on board.
