The jetties alongside the Whareroa and Sulphur Point boat ramps are closed after a recent structural survey found significant defects caused by rusting and decay.
In an advisory sent by Tauranga City Council the public are advised the jetties are closed from today and will be replaced with floating pontoons during the winter.
The jetty next to the four lane boat ramp at Sulphur Point is closed.
The Whareroa boat ramp is located on the eastern side of Tauranga Harbour Bridge next to the Whareroa Reserve.
The Sulphur Point ramp is the four-lane ramp accessible on the left of Cross Road at Sulphur Point.
Council Group Communication Advisor City Transportation and Business Services Meagan Holmes says the work is part of council's ongoing marine maintenance programme to progressively upgrade and improve many of the city's dated marine structures.
'The findings of the structural survey means the closure of these jetties has been brought forward.”
The boat ramps will remain open with the existing floating pontoons at both sites providing access for boaties.
