Residents may notice an increased police presence at Tauranga Girls’ College on Tuesday evening as the Armed Offenders Squad carries out a scheduled training exercise.

The training will take place between 5pm and 9pm on July 28 and will involve Armed Offenders Squad staff and police dogs, police said on its Bay of Plenty & Taupō Facebook page.

Police are assuring the public there is no risk to safety.

“Members of the public who see police officers at the college should not be alarmed or concerned,” the post reads.

“There is no risk to public safety – no live ammunition will be used, and training will be contained within the training venue."

Police dogs taking part in the exercise will also remain within the training area.

The training is part of regular operational exercises designed to ensure specialist police staff maintain their skills and readiness.
