A man has died after a single-vehicle crash at Galatea, near Murupara.

Police were called about 9.30pm on Thursday after a car crashed off Troutbeck Rd, just north of the intersection with Whirinaki Rd, about 80km southeast of Rotorua in the Whakatāne district.

Police said he was 20-year-old Sean Raymond Bridgeman from Galatea.

He was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene, a police spokesman said.

Police are investigating the crash.

Tributes were flowing for Bridgeman and his family on his online funeral notice.

He was described as a “good kid from an amazing, kind and caring whānau” who had a kind smile and was fun-loving.

His funeral service is set to be held in Galatea tomorrow.
