Two new signalised intersections will be installed in Tauriko as part of the Tauriko Enabling Works project.
In a Facebook post, New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said traffic lights will be installed at two intersections of State Highway 29 with Cambridge Rd and Te Ara Hoia Drive.
While installation work is starting now, the lights will not be activated until the end of the project, expected around mid-2027.
NZTA said the new intersections would make the area safer and easier for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to navigate.
The SH29 and Cambridge Rd intersection has long been identified as a high-risk location and one that can be difficult for drivers to access safely.
The upgraded layout will also include a dedicated crossing for people walking and cycling.
Meanwhile, the traffic lights at Te Ara Hoia Dr are intended to improve access and safety for the local school community and support future residential development in Tauriko West.
Preparatory work is already visible at the Te Ara Hoia Dr intersection, with work at Cambridge Rd scheduled to begin later this year.
The wider Tauriko Enabling Works programme is being delivered by NZTA in partnership with Tauranga City Council.
The project aims to improve safety at the intersections of SH29 with Redwood Lane, Belk Rd and Cambridge Rd, while also enabling new housing in Tauriko West, supporting growth in the Tauriko Business Estate, protecting key freight routes and improving access to public transport.
