Good Neighbour has more than 300 volunteers contributing weekly to its wide range of community-driven projects that aim to transform neighbourhoods and support individuals.
“We’re a community organisation that exists to bring the people of our city together so we can provide solutions to those who need it,” said general manager Renee Hanna.
“What we want to share this volunteer week is the power of what happens when people all play their part – Good Neighbour believes that everybody has a part to play to make our city a better place for all.”
At Good Neighbour, volunteering takes many shapes, forms and skillsets.
There are numerous roles within its food rescue and distribution, firewood collection and delivery, growing and harvesting community garden beds, youth mentoring, supporting people into employment, cooking community meals, backyard projects and free mobile shower and laundry facilities – plus administration, hosting and event tasks too.
“We really do have volunteer roles for everybody,” Hanna said.
“Our volunteers help us make Tauranga a more connected, compassionate and resilient place to live.”
For volunteers, their mahi (work) offers social connection, friendship and the feeling of making a difference.
“Each day we cook lunch for our volunteers. It’s a beautiful community to be part of.”
So what are you waiting for? What is your part to play?
