Authorities are investigating a suspicious vehicle-storage shed fire at Tauriko.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman said crews were called to a commericial property on State Highway 29 around 3.30am.

The spokesman said the 20m by 10m shed used to store vehicles was “well ablaze” when crews arrived.

“Crews worked to extinguish the fire and protect exposures, a large firewood pile.

“A digger was also used to clear debris.”

The fire was put out and hot spots were dampened down.

The spokesman said crews from Greerton and Tauranga went to the fire and left about 6.20am.

A police spokeswoman said the fire near Cambridge Rd was being treated as suspicious.

“Police and Fire and Emergency fire investigators are now working to establish the circumstances of the fire.

“A scene guard is in place while inquiries continue.”
