Fire crews battled a house fire in Matapihi last night.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called about 7.20pm, and the property was well alight when crews arrived.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Carren Larking said three fire appliances attended the fire.

She said a fire investigator was at the scene this morning as crews continue to work through the aftermath and determine the cause.

The blaze involved a single house.

Further details on damage or any injuries have not yet been confirmed.
