Thousands of people filled the stands to watch drifters slide around the track reaching speeds of 140km in a final race to the finish line.
The two-day event is the third of six to be held around the country with this weekend's visit to the Bay of Plenty a first.
Bay of Plenty drifters, led by top D1 professional class prospect Cole Armstrong representing V Energy in a Nissan Skyline R34, included local couple Drew Donovan and the country's top female driver Jodie Verhulst.
Crews from as far as Christchurch were competing in the event including former D1NZ Drift King Daniel 'Fanga Dan' Woolhouse and last season's D1NZ champion Curt Whittaker.
In conjunction with the event today was Adenstyres.co.nz FMX Jam featuring New Zealand's top resident rider Nick Franklin and top up-and-comer Mitch McHardy, the Epik Eyewear Model Search, and a Hard Park (car show).
Drifters will now turn towards round four of the series held in Hampton Downs on March 1-2.
On March 30-31 Christchurch will host round five at the Powerbuilt Tools Raceway at Ruapuna Park.
The Pukekohe Raceway will host the grand final in April.

This was also the first time in New Zealand that a drifting event had ever reached full capacity so well done to Tauranga. Unfortunately not everyone could get in. Also, well done to Jodie - great to get a female on the podium.

Great controlled event, well done. Just a pity some of the wannabes had to take it to the streets afterwards, a mate was nearly taken out at Temunga roundabout (right outside the front door) and I saw plenty in the Mount industrial area!! think about it if you want to see and have more here, it only takes a couple to wreck it for all!!
Go hard

About time this kind of event was here. Also lets hope some benevolent land owner lets these young dumb n fullacum kids have a rip up in some paddocks. My brother makes a fortune out of this in the Naki.
