Waikato Police hope by introducing a cost free way to contact the investigation team working to establish who murdered a Queensland man outside a Waihi Beach address on New Year's Day will make it easier for people with information to contact them.
Officer in charge of the Operation Brad investigation, acting Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson, says he encourages anyone with information to use it.
Robert Murray Wilkinson was stabbed outside a Beach Road property in Waihi Beach on New Year's Day.
'The number is 0800 Op Brad (0800 672723) and will be manned during the day with messages left after hours cleared by an on-call member of staff.
'What we're trying to achieve by setting up this number is to provide another avenue for the hundreds of people that were in the area at the time of the attack, shortly before 1am on Tuesday morning, to make contact with us.”
Ross says thus far the nearly 40 Police staff working on the investigation had received good cooperation from Waihi Beach locals and visitors alike and he asked that spirit of cooperation continue.
'We've had search teams combing roofs, building and properties and while the search teams have concluded for today they'll be back out there tomorrow as will the team working on the scene examination.
'With the introduction of the 0800 number the public now have three ways to get in contact with us, they can dial 0800 Op Brad, they can email us at [email protected] or they can come and see us directly at either the Waihi or Waihi Beach police stations.
'The important thing is, no matter what method people use, make sure you contact us.”
