Expo highlights safety and service opportunities

Sirens and Services expos are being held across the district. It’s Te Puke’s turn on July 26.

At the end of the month, it’s Te Puke’s turn to experience Sirens and Services.

The local edition of events being run by Western Bay of Plenty Neighbourhood Support will be held in Te Puke War Memorial Hall on July 26.

Event co-ordinator Rebecca Larsen said the event would be an expo with the focus on safety, security and community services.

The emphasis will be on prevention.

“We’re looking for local community services to sign up and present themselves at this event, whether they want to share their information with the community or ask the community for resources they might be looking for, such as volunteers they might need.”

Larsen was also on the lookout for anyone involved in safety and security in the broadest sense.

“We are looking for community organisations providing services for the community or local businesses with a focus on safety and security. That could be water safety, safety in the home like handrails for elderly people, online security gates and systems to keep homes safe and secure, alarms, fire alarms - things like that.”

Those attending the expo will get a passport to fill in with rewards in the form of ice creams.

Te Puke Neighbourhood support co-ordinator Colleen Pye said the emphasis was on those who were locally-based who could provide services.

“At the same time, we just want to make sure people in Te Puke and the greater Te Puke area are aware of what’s available to them.”

She said the intent was for the definition of safety to be very wide-ranging and holistic, to cover areas such as wellness and wellbeing.

“So, it’s from the person to property.”

People would be able to learn about the work of Neighbourhood Support.

Anyone wanting to find out more about attending can send an email to events@wbopns.org.nz
