Stolen vehicle recovered from Tauranga waterway

UPDATE: Police have recovered a stolen vehicle from a Tauranga waterway.

A police spokesperson said they initially recieved reports of a vehicle in a body of water near Tom Muir Drive, Gate Pa, at 8am.

"Emergency services have recovered the vehicle from the water," police said in a a statement.

"The vehicle was unoccupied and reported to be stolen."

Enquries were continuing.

Anyone with inforamtion about the stolen vehicle can contact their nearest police station or call police's non-emergency number 105.

A police presence has been spotted in Gate Pā, Tauranga, today.

Readers have emailed in reporting a number of police on Tom Muir Drive.

One person said police had been there since about 8am.

Another reader said there were also five police cars and two ambulances parked at the end of Faulkner St in the reserve car park.

A reporter at the scene said police had taped off a reserve at the bottom of Tom Muir Drive.

“There were officers at the scene putting up police tape and people are being told to avoid the area.”

People at the scene said they understood there was a submerged car in one of the waterways in the reserve.
