Update, 1.20pm: State Highway 2 has reopened and is under Stop/Go traffic management near Pukehina, following a serious crash.
Police said SH2 is now open between Old Coach Rd and Ōtamarākau Valley Rd.
“Expect delays.”
Hato Hone St John was notified of a motor vehicle accident near Pukehina at 10am and responded with two ambulances, one rapid response unit, one manager and one first response unit to the scene.
“Our crews assessed and treated two patients in a moderate condition and one patient in a minor condition who were transported to Tauranga hospital,” it said.
Earlier, 10.14am: State Highway 2 between Pukehina and Matatā is closed following a serious crash.
Police were alerted to the two-vehicle crash at around 10am.
“Motorists are advised to take alternative routes due to a blockage on State Highway 2, near Ōtamarākau Valley Road, Pukehina following a serious crash this morning,” a police spokesperson said.
“Indications are people have been injured.”

Fire and Emergency NZ have sent fire trucks from the Pukehina and Maketū stations to the scene.
NZTA Waka Kotahi advise that SH 2 between Matatā and Paengaroa is closed until further notice.
An alternative route is via SH2 to Ōtamarākau Valley Rd to Old Coach Rd to SH2.
“The road will remain closed for some time,” police said.
