SH29 reopens near Hinuera after crash

Update, 3.20pm:  State Highway 29 has reopened north of the Pairere roundabout, following a crash that downed powerlines near Hinuera.

An NZ Transport Agency update at 3.15pm confirmed the road was open, after being closed since morning.

Emergency services were alerted to a two-car crash near Hopkins Rd around 8.40am, police said.

Earlier, 9.45am: State Highway 29 is closed following a crash this morning near Hopkins Road, Hinuera.

"Emergency services were alerted to the two-vehicle crash around 8.40am," police said.

"One person has received moderate injuries."

Police said the highway is closed due to powerlines on the road.

"Contractors have been contacted."

NZTA Waka Kotahi have advised that due to the car crash SH29 is closed between Hinuera Road and Totman Road.

Motorists are advised to follow diversions, expect delays and take extra care.

A detour is in place:

Eastbound traffic turn right onto Totman Rd, then left onto SH27, and right onto SH29.

Westbound traffic turn left onto SH 27, right onto Totman Rd, then left onto SH 29.
