The Ōmanawa Falls carpark will be closed today.
Tauranga City Council is resealing the carpark to make it smoother and safer for people visiting this scenic spot, the council said in a statement.
“The carpark will be closed on Monday, May 5, and the main walking track will be inaccessible as entry takes place from this point.
“The resealing, which is weather dependent, is being undertaken by the contractor at no cost to the council.”
If this work is delayed, it will be completed at another suitable date, the council said.
Ōmanawa Cafe, which shares the carpark, will be closed for the day too.
“Maintenance work, which includes vegetation tidying and topping up gravel on the track, is also taking place.
“Te Rere o Ōmanawa is a special area in the rohe of local hapū Ngāti Hangarau.
“If you visit once the carpark re-opens, you’ll find a range of features to enjoy including three lookout platforms providing panoramic views of the falls and wider Ōmanawa Valley.”

While these works are under way, visitors are encouraged to check out some other fantastic walks in the city.
