Drug raids: more charges

Two men arrested during the drug raids in Maketu yesterday are due back in court tomorrow after being remanded in custody today.


Two men arrested in the Maketu drug raids have appeared in court.

Damon Joel Best, 23, and Mark Gregory Kimber, 48, appeared in the Tauranga District Court today charged with conspiring to supply the precursor material, iodine, knowing it was to be used to manufacture P.
Best was remanded in custody until tomorrow to allow for further information to be put before the court. His bail will also be considered tomorrow.

Police opposed bail for Kimber, from Hairini, who is facing a charge of supplying methamphetamine to two people. He was released on bail and will reappear in court on Friday.
Kimber and Best are part of a group of people who have been arrested following drug raids in the Western Bay of Plenty this week.

Operation Detroit culminated on Wednesday in a series of search warrants in Maketu, Te Puke and Tauranga involving approximately 40 police staff from three districts.

A total of 18 people have been arrested - 16 men and two women. Three men and one woman were arrested for a variety of cannabis offences. The remaining 14 all face a variety of Class A drug-related charges.

well done NZ Police. The sooner we get rid of the scourge of ALL drugs in our community, the better. Parents need to be vigilant to keep their kids out of the influence of drug dealers. Education is the key to drug resistance

Well done for wat? A waste of tax payers money, you talk about education is the key. It doesn't matter how much education you give your kids, they will do wt ever they want to do.

Sorry to say but educating your children will not save them from the influence of drugs and alcohol. And its not about low income familys either becos even the rich have same issues. And look around its the same ones just re-offending so what lessons are they going to listen to really?? Only option is to lock these suppliers up and throw away the key!
