Ōmokoroa greenwaste hours extended

Calling all Ōmokoroa green-thumbs…

"As the community blossoms and grows, we’ve noticed an increasing demand for our greenwaste drop-off service," says a Western Bay of Plenty District Council spokesperson.

"So, we’re extending our opening hours at the Ōmokoroa Greenwaste Centre to three hours a day on Wednesdays and Saturdays."

Council’s Resource Recovery and Waste Team Leader, Ilze Kruis says the extended hours have been made possible by valued volunteers from the Lions Club of Ōmokoroa and Districts, who have made themselves available to cover the extra hours.

The new hours, of 1pm to 4pm, will take effect from Wednesday, April 3.

“The Ōmokoroa Greenwaste Centre is a place where locals can drop off their garden waste knowing it will be turned into valuable compost," says Ilze.

“It is part of our commitment to continuing to improve the way our waste is managed and to achieve the vision of minimising waste that goes to landfill.

“It’s great to see people making good use of the centre and we are pleased to be able to extend the hours to assist gardeners on the days that it is open. We are also grateful to all the Lions volunteers who donate their time to make this possible.”
