Construction of the extension to Te Okuroa Drive and the new intersection with future The Sands Avenue is expected to finish soon.

This phase of the project includes the construction of: the Te Okuroa and The Sands Avenue signalised intersection, the extension of Te Okuroa Drive (east) to the new intersection and shared bi-directional cycleway and footpaths.

"The cycle path is now diverted via the new intersection and reconnected with the original cycle path on the other side of the site. The intersection will not be open to general traffic for now," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"The next phase is the longest and most exciting part of the project; the construction of the interchange itself, including on- and off ramps, stormwater management, landscaping and cultural artwork."

Traffic Management

Traffic impacts on the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road are not anticipated until April, when a lane closure will be necessary to allow the safe construction of bridge abutments and on- and off-ramps, says council.

"We will be able to provide you with more details on what this looks like once the traffic management plan has been finalised."
