Fishermen and recreational boaties are being educated on how to stay safe in waters around the Western Bay of Plenty as the search continues for missing boatie Shaun Hogarth.
A boat ramp education day is being held throughout the Western Bay of Plenty as the Harbourmasters and Wardens chat with boaties about the correct behaviours and equipment to have out on the water.
Fishermen Graeme McDonnell and Eric Bell have a chat with Coastguard volunteer Elisa Caswell.
Tauranga Harbourmaster Jennifer Roberts says the day is an opportunity to speak to people at the beginning of the busy summer boating season about what navigation safety bylaws may be in place in certain areas.
She says it also gives boaties an opportunity to ask any questions, or meet their local Harbour Wardens and Harbourmasters.
'We're happy to speak to people about things they can do to make their day on the water safer.
'It's great to see so many people out enjoying our harbours and the ocean.”
