Bay of Plenty residents are being warned not to be fooled by an email scam circulating the internet.
SunLive was contacted by three readers reporting they had been sent an email claiming to be from Inland Revenue.
They say the email asked for the user to enter their credit card details in order to access a refund.
A spokeswoman from IRD says it's a scam, and if anyone has any questions they should call or visit the 'email scams' section of the department's website.

About a year ago i got an email saying that ird owed me $60. I rang them but did not open the email suspecting it was a scam and they said that while i was on the phone they might as well check and was shocked when they said they owed me $400 from five years earlier. Thanks to those scammers i got a $400 refund
