Voting is now open for the Waihī Beach Community Board by-election.
Two people have put their names forward to fill the vacant seat: Don Ryan and Wayne Stevenson.
The by-election has been triggered by the resignation of Deputy Chairperson, Alan Kurtovich, who stepped down in August 2023. Read more here.
Community Board Members will have strong networks within the Waihī Beach community, keep up to date on local issues and be willing to influence change for the betterment of residents in the Waihī Beach area.
Voting will be done via postal ballot, with voting papers are being sent to Waihī Beach residents.
To vote, residents in the Waihī Beach Community Board area will need to complete their postal ballots and send them back in using the return envelope. Sealed ballots can also be dropped off at Council’s Library and Service Centres in Katikati and Waihī Beach, and at Council’s office at Barkes Corner in Tauranga.
If you live in this area, and you are eligible to vote, you will receive your postal ballots via mail. If you haven’t received yours by Wednesday, November 1, please call 0800 922 822, or email [email protected]
Voting closes at midday on Saturday , November 18, so all votes need to be received before this.
Votes will be counted soon after voting closes and the winner will be declared on Saturday, November 18. They will then be sworn into the role at the next Council meeting, on Thursday, December 14.
Whoever is elected will join current Community Board members, Dani Simpson, Heather Marie Guptill and Ross Goudie.

- Katikati Library and Service Centre (please note: this will be closed on Monday, November 6 until Wednesday, November 8, for scheduled works. It will re-open again on Thursday, November 9.

So a small place like Waihi can afford to have a bi-election but poor old Tauranga is not allowed and required govt aligned control.
