Rep rugby wraps up

A solid season for the Bay of Plenty under 16 sides ended with its only defeat of the Northern Region championship – in the playoff for third place on Saturday.

After being relegated to the consolation final, after drawing with Waikato the previous weekend, the Bay age group team faced Counties Manukau. The opposition got away to a flyer and led 12-nil after just 10 minutes before Bay of Plenty came back into the match.
Leading 15-12 with 10 minutes to go, the Bay was stunned when Counties ran in a long range try to take the lead back. In spite of a determined attack from Bay of Plenty, the Counties side held on to win 19-15. Douglas Rewi and Bishop Thompson scored tries for Bay of Plenty, with Jordan Ngamata-Poi kicking a penalty and a conversion.

In other games, the Bay of Plenty under 18 team beat Counties Manukau 14-nil. Facing a monstrous forward pack, the Bay representatives weren't fazed and ran in a touchdown in the first spell to lead 7-0 at the break.
Another try awarded to Bay of Plenty in the second spell, resulted in the Bay finishing their Northern Region campaign, with three wins and two narrow losses.
The Bay Development team's long trip to Whangarei produced little reward with Northland defeating the Bay side 24-0. While the Bay second XV finished the Northern Region competition without posting a win, the team developed a real camaraderie.
The Bay of Plenty Secondary Schoolgirls finished their Northern Region campaign in style, posting their first win of the season. Facing Northern Harbour at home the Bay team put on an impressive performance, running in four tries to win 24-10.
