FutureFit offers a chance to discover your own carbon footprint by answering a few quick questions on your everyday decisions around food, transport, and home energy use.
We asked Tauranga City Council's General Manager of Infrastructure Nic Johansson about his recent experience with FutureFit.
He shares how he is already looking to adjust his eating habits after discovering his results.
Did you have any surprises using FutureFit?
'I found it very quick, easy and user friendly. It's so useful to see a snapshot of the impacts across the four categories, and it immediately tells you where you can make some impactful changes. What was also very insightful for me was the long-term impacts by changing the little things, literally, like lightbulbs. The biggest surprise was the impact I and my family can make by reducing red meat and dairy consumption. That's certainly changed our knowledge and behaviour for the better.”
What is your top learning from using the tool?
'The top takeaway for me is how a little knowledge, which you certainly get by doing the survey, can influence your thinking and trigger good conversations at the dinner table!”
Does this feel like a small change or a big opportunity to grow?
'Some small changes to our eating habits will have very positive impacts from our household. The biggest change is probably that we'll think carefully about hopping on a plane, and, if so, we'll have a much greater sense of responsibility and commit to offset the carbon emissions.”
Why do you think others should give FutureFit a go?
'It takes all of us to make changes for a better future for coming generations, and FutureFit is such a good starting point.”
Visit www.futurefit.nz to set actions for a better future. You'll get to see other users' carbon reductions on a national and regional level, and you'll have the option to start your own team with friends and family.

Just like Roger the paid woke propaganda has begun. What happens when there is more CO2 in the world ? I wonder, does the world get greener ? Oh, so I see at the end, paid by Tauranga Council.....what a real surprise.

The answer is nothing. That is the impact you have on local and global climate change.
Get on with it.

Nic, for goodness sake, the infrastructure is in serious need of speed in Tauranga so please just get on with what you are paid megabucks to do and get the cars in particular flowing smoothly throughout the city. Forget about your little sidetracks and start taking notice of what your ratepayer bosses desperately need and that is more speed around the town.
Inevitable

No matter what one does as a consumer of every thing pollution continues to be so. We do little , spend much on this nonsense but pollute other countries , mining, manufacturing, shipping products and have this holier than thou attitude. Population growth outstrips everything as more with more consumption. Nothing stops people starve, wars continue, when population exceeds resources it's inevitable just whether it's fifty years or one hundred years. So consume on there is no choice no remedy

I see you're having a dark spell. I hope it doesn't last because I really enjoy your sensible (and usually positive) posts. Remember that all things pass... There IS a lot that is dark, but there is also a lot that is light and we shouldn't get swamped to the point where we forget that. Sincerely hope your health is not deteriorating and you are OK. Keep your chin up! (You'll probably step in a puddle, but at least everyone else will have a laugh :-))
impact.

In the context of our planet, the impact on the environment of our country, with 5 million people, even all driving cars, is statistically insignificant. So, if we are trying to be eco-friendly it is because we consider it to be the right thing to do and not because Earth will fail without it. I believe we have a jewel (taonga) that we should be protecting whether the planet is endangered or not; do it for your kids. I have lessened my personal impact by losing 8 KG. The Earth no longer groans every time I take a step... :-)
