Ewen Macdonald jailed for five years

Ewen Macdonald has been jailed for five years on six charges including arson and vandalism.

The 32-year-old Fielding farmer who was found not guilty of killing his brother-in-law Scott Guy earlier this year was sentenced in the High Court in Palmerston North today.

He had previously admitted to six unrelated charges including arson and vandalism that took place on the Guy family farm.

Macdonald admitted to burning down an old house and damaging a new house belonging to Scott and his wife Kylee Guy, poaching deer, killing calves belonging to a farmer and destroying property belonging to another farmer.

Macdonald has been in custody since April last year when he was arrested and charged with Scott Guy's murder.

He was acquitted on the charge following a trial in the high court.
