North Harbour, Auckland, and Bay of Plenty are living up to expectations at the New Zealand Women's Interprovincials, being undefeated with a day of round-robin play to play.
North Harbour remain at the top of the table following a 3.5 – 1.5 victory over Canterbury this afternoon, taking their win tally to four with 17.5 games under their belts.
Auckland, the most successful team in the competition's history, sit second with four contest points and 17 games, while Bay of Plenty occupies third with four contest points and 15.5 games.
Taranaki rounds out the top four but has a bye this afternoon after playing Waikato this morning.
The pole sitters heading into tomorrow, North Harbour, have been dominant this week, and this afternoon was no different despite the gusty conditions.
They comfortably defeated Canterbury to set up a blockbuster final day tomorrow morning against the hosts.
Harbour number five Yeonsoo Son got the team off to a positive start, winning her match 3&2.
North Harbour captain and number four Vaha Fapiano secured a half while Silvia Brunotti lost 2 down.
However, the North Harbour top order proved too strong for the Cantabrians, with Amy Im winning 4&3 and 5&3.
Fapiano says the girls are pumped for the challenge against the home team.
'Tough is the word I'd use to describe today, but we came away with the win.
'The girls have come together really nicely as a team over the course of the week, it's really cool to see the team spirit.
'It is vital we lock up a good position following the round-robin to ensure we have a good semi. Whoever is in front of us will be tough, but as I say, as long as we keep our team spirit up, we'll be hard to beat.
'Bring on the Bay.”
Bay of Plenty has been equally impressive but sits third as they haven't accumulated as many games.
They scrapped over the line against a valiant Otago this afternoon 3 – 2, with the bottom nailing their briefs and securing the vital wins.
Heather Keefe won 2&1, Hunter Edwards won 3&2, and the team's captain Penny Smith won 7&6.
Smith says the team has put themselves in a great position for Saturday but needs to get over the final hurdles tomorrow against North Harbour and Auckland, which isn't easily done.
'We're really looking forward to the challenge tomorrow. Obviously playing both Auckland and North Harbour will be a real challenge, but we just have to stick to our game plans and go out there and have fun.
'The goal is to play Saturday. It'd be awesome to be in contention where anything can happen.”
Auckland sit ahead of Bay of Plenty, just a half point behind North Harbour.
They defeated the previously unbeaten Manawatu Wanganui 4 – 1 and could lock up a semi-final place as early as tomorrow morning with a win against Wellington.
The fourth semi-final place could be anyones. The front-runners are Manawatu Wanganui and Taranaki, who sit on three contest points.
The women head to Tauranga Golf Club tomorrow for the final day, which gets underway at 7.30am.
Hosts book their semi-spot at the New Zealand Men's Interprovincials
Bay of Plenty secured its place in the New Zealand Men's Interprovincial semi-finals with a day to spare, while Auckland is in the box seat to lock up a spot on the other side of the draw.

The hosts defeated Manawatu Wanganui 3.5 – 1.5 to guarantee themselves a top-two finish in Division One with two rounds to go. They have five contest points, and 18 game wins to sit well clear at the top of their division.
They'll enjoy a bye this morning and play their final pool game against Poverty Bay East Coast this afternoon.
The BOP has been relentless all week and didn't take their foot off the gas against the Manawatu Wanganui outfit.
The rock at the top, Jordan Golding, won 5&4 at his home club to get the hosts on the board early at Omanu Golf Club. Hayden White and Shaun Campbell both won 6&5 to secure the BOP's fifth consecutive win of the week, while Nathan Clark halved, and Mitchell Kale went down in the number one match.
Bay of Plenty captain Golding says it's been a long decade since their last victory in Otago, and they're looking forward to giving the title a good run on Saturday.
'Everyone's really happy again. It was a touch tighter than we thought, but the boys dug deep and battled through the challenging conditions this morning.
'Hopefully, we can get a few more supporters out here now that we've confirmed a semi-final spot. It'd be special to perform well in front of them, it's been a while since we've won, and the team has changed quite a bit since 2012. I'm confident we can go far into the tournament with the form we're all in this week.”
The second semi-final place in Division One is still up for grabs. Wellington beat Otago 4 – 1 to get to 2.5 contest points and 13.5 matches to be in the driver's seat for the second semi-final spot, but Northland are nipping at their heels on the same contest points but only ten-game points.
Meanwhile, Auckland remains undefeated after getting out of jail against Southland.
After being down four games to one at the turn, the team from the City of Sails rallied to flip two of their matches and steal the match 3 – 2.
Auckland reserve Kyle Maihi got a run at number five and came back from 1 down to win 1up. Jordan Jones won 2&1, and number one Josh Bai came back from 2 down to win 2up.
Auckland captain Matthew Cormack says it was a monumental effort to come from behind against a tricky Southland side and sit atop a tough side of the draw.
'We don't look at it as a tough draw. We've tried to break it up into six one-game tournaments, and we're only ever looking one game ahead. We're back playing another round tomorrow morning against a tough Hawke's Bay, and we'll do our best there and see where that takes us.”
Like the other side of the draw, several teams are in contention for the second semi-final place. Hawke's Bay currently occupies that spot on three contest points and 12.5 games. They face Auckland and the defending champions, Taranaki, today.
The final day of round robin gets underway at Omanu Golf Club today at 7.30am.
