Some rain and wind this week

MetService weather forecasters say that by Tuesday, a weak ridge should be in place over New Zealand.

"Several weak fronts and troughs are expected to move over the country during the outlook period," says a MetService spokesperson.

"These fronts and troughs may bring rain and strong winds to parts of the country, but it isn't expected that warnings will be required.

"There could be localised areas of heavy rain associated with afternoon convection on some of the days, especially about the North Island."

MetService says that a large low over the Tasman Sea should begin moving onto New Zealand during Friday.

"There is low confidence that rain associated with northerly winds may require a warning for Mount Taranaki and the ranges of Tasman and western Marlborough on Friday. Windy conditions are possible about the north of the North Island, but it is unlikely that a warning will be required.":
