Settled weather with some rain ahead

Weather analysts at MetSerivce say there is minimal risk of severe weather expected ahead today.

"A weak trough of low pressure over the country is forecast to move away to the east on Monday as a ridge of high pressure moves onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea," says a MetService spokesperson.

"The ridge is expected to remain over much of the country until Wednesday, bringing settled weather, aside from daytime heat showers.

"However, a front preceded by rain and strengthening northerlies should move onto Fiordland on Tuesday, then weaken and become slow-moving there on Wednesday.," says a MetService spokesperson.

"A trough of low pressure may move westwards onto Bay of Plenty and Gisborne on Tuesday, bringing a period of rain or showers to eastern parts of the North Island.

"The ridge should weaken on Thursday, which allows another trough to approach New Zealand from the west."
