Primary Health Care nurses are holding a rally in downtown Tauranga today to highlight pay equity issues.
Rallies are also being held in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch at the same time.
"New Zealand Nurses Organisation - NZNO - members are standing together from 12.30pm-1.30pm on Monday, August 29, to call on the Government to ensure that Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand - formerly the DHBs - urgently provides the funding needed to properly value New Zealand's Primary Health Care nurses," says an NZNO spokesperson.
"Primary Health Care nurses - for example General Practice, Plunket, Māori and iwi, Urgent Care, and Family Planning - will be holding rallies demonstrating the unfair way in which they are paid, particularly when compared to nurses who work for Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand."
The rally will be taking place in Tauranga's Red Square, at the bottom of Devonport Road. Speakers will include NZNO leaders, members and delegates and NZNO members will be holding signs and speaking out.
"Members of the public will be invited to rate the Government's performance in valuing and appropriately paying Primary Health Care nurses by placing a sticker on their chosen location on a large Plunket chart," says an NZNO spokesperson.
"Members of the public will also be invited to cast a ballot to vote on how well they think the Government is doing when it comes to valuing Primary Health Care Nurses and paying them appropriately."
The organisers say that members of the public will also be invited to sign a post card to Health Minister Andrew Little asking him to ensure Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand urgently provides the funding needed to properly value New Zealand's Primary Health Care nurses.
