Cambridge cemetery damage: further arrests made

Cambridge Police have arrested another two people for the damage caused to the Hautapu Cemetery this week.

The Waipā cemetery was damaged with deep skid marks and a grave was also driven over.

A grass area, berms and a grave were deliberately driven on and torn up at the Hautapu Cemetery near Cambridge on Monday August 1 – causing about $3000 worth of harm.

A 24-year-old man is due to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Thursday August 11 on charges of intentional damage, interfering with a grave, sustained loss of traction and perverting the course of justice.

A second 24-year-old man is due to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Thursday August 16 on charges of intentional damage, interfering with a grave, sustained loss of traction.

A 19-year-old Cambridge local was also arrested earlier in the week and charged with intentional damage in relation to the incident. He has also been charged with sustained loss of traction in relation to a subsequent incident on a public road and his car has been impounded.

"Cambridge Police are happy to be able to hold these people accountable for their actions on behalf of the local community," says a Police spokesperson.
