People have until midday, Friday, August 12, to get their nominations in for Western Bay of Plenty District Council's seats.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council strategy and community group manager Rachael Davie says nominations are a precise process and now is not the time to hold off from a campaign perspective.

'In the past we have had people miss out because they've not had their paperwork done on time.

'If you have missing details in your paperwork or mistakes had been made, you will need time to resubmit your nomination. The morning of Friday, August 12, is not the time to risk your chance of representing your community.

'We need as many people as possible putting their hands up this election and the last thing we want is for someone to miss out because of a technical or administrative detail.”

People needing assistance or advice with their nomination paperwork can contact council for help.

On Saturday, October 8, the Western Bay will go to the polls to elect a mayor, 11 councillors and 20 community board members.

Council makeup: one mayor, three

To stand for mayor, councillor or community board just follow these steps:

• You must be a New Zealand citizen and on either general or Māori electoral roll.
• You need two people to nominate you using the official nomination form, which can be picked up at all Council library and service centres or downloaded online at generationchange.nz. Your nominees must be 18 years or older and enrolled in the area you wish to stand for.

• Hand in the completed form at one of Council's library and service centres or post it to Council's electoral officer Dale Ofsoske, PO Box 5135, Victoria Street West, Auckland 1142

• It costs $200 to lodge a nomination for each position
