The parking building on Elizabeth Street in Tauranga will be closed this weekend.

The closure, from August 6 to August 7, is part of earthquake strengthening works currently underway.

"The full closure of the carpark is required to safely carry out some localised strengthening works around the 1st Ave entry/exit, which will be too noisy to allow members of the public to be in the same area within the building," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"These localised works, along with upgrades on the 1st Ave vehicle crossing will also require the closure of the 1st Ave entry/exit for up to three weeks."

Council says from Monday, August 1, to Sunday, August 7, the 1st Ave entry and exit lanes will be shut.

From August 8 to August 21, unless completed sooner, the 1st Ave entry lane will be shut.

"Please use the Elizabeth Street entry/exit during this time."
