The demolition of Tauranga City Council's old council building at Willow Street is on schedule for completion in early October.

Work to remove the roof has commenced.

Those nearby may have noticed an increase in noise levels around the site. Scaffolding and a scrim barrier is in place along Wharf and Willow Streets to help contain dust and debris during removal of the facade cladding.

Council says work to remove the roof and sides of the building will continue over the coming weeks, along with completion of the internal strip-out.

A progress shot shows the removal of the roof and external cladding is well underway, along with the clean out of the building's second floor. Photo: Supplied.

Pedestrian access around the area remains restricted.

Vehicles can continue to move through the city centre with traffic management and signage in place. People are advised to always take care.

The building is being demolished to make way for a new civic precinct – Te Manawataki O Te Papa.

That work on their own building can be on schedule. I wonder if it's coming in under budget as well.
