In a highly disrupted week where 228mm (9.1 inches) of rain fell on the course over five days, which prevented any play before Wednesday, the week culminated with the annual crazy competition of playing the course backwards.

On Sunday, 19 'four balls” teams ventured out to contest the Craig's Investments Partners sponsored play the course backward ambrose competition.

The course was mostly back to perfect playing conditions, and for those who thought it would be an easy ride, there were many unexpected challenges, and past strategies did not always work due to the whiles of the organisers.

The winning team was: Pip Jones, Jill Morrison, Frank Van Hattum, and Nigel Sanderson, with a prize table going down to 11th place. It was an enjoyable event for all participants, due to the organisation of Tim Parish and Jacquie Bain.

WEDNESDAY LADIES: The rain finally cleared enough for the ladies to venture out onto a very soggy course, which still had a lot of surface water as well as running water in places. The competition for the day was the Bowden Cup Nett, and Sally Grindlay proved to be the lady who handled the conditions the best with 72 nett. She was closely followed by Carol Leary, Helen Baynes, and Adele Gunning whom all registered nett 73's. Nita Dalley and Jill Morrison both had 74 nett.

THURSDAY MEN: Conditions had not improved much from the day before, which tested many players, and thus was proved by only one player in either of the day's haggles playing to or better than his handicap!

In the morning haggle, division 1, Scott Spicer played best for 35 points, followed by Charles Gibson (Walton), Peter Wright, and Ted Murray, all with 34 points. John Giffney and Howard Anderson both had 33. In division 2, Andrew McLennan came to the fore with 35 points, with Graham Leigh next on 33. Ray Fisher, Gary Dunlop, and Peter Maria all had 32.

In the afternoon haggle, Frank Van Hattum proved to be the water baby with the only score better than his handicap with 37 points. He was trailed by Jethro Meares, John Taylor, and David P Campbell all with 35. Back on 33 were Mark Tomsett, and Patrick Clifford.

SATURDAY LADIES: Played the Saturday section of the Bowden Cup Nett, and the leader in this section was Susan Mustard with a nett 72. Next were Kaylene Croker with 74, Michelle Libby (75), and Karen Roche (76).

SATURDAY MEN: With carts still being kept off the course, a slightly smaller field for the morning haggle was boosted by four visitors from Omokoroa. In fact the winner was Brian Page (Omokoroa) on a countback from Grant Robson with 35 points. Next was Francis Gascoigne on 34, and Allen Smith following with 33 points. The only two scored was by Don Haywood (Omokoroa) on the 8th.

A pleasant afternoon on a drying course for the afternoon haggle saw Mark Tomsett stride home on top with a fine 40 points. He was followed by Gary Dunning with 38, then John Burns was next with 37, and then back to Malcolm Coldicutt with 35 points.
