Four arrested after Taupo disorder

UPDATED 11.37AM: Four people have been arrested following a disorder incident in Taupo.

"About 10.30am, a vehicle involved in the disorder was seen by police travelling on State Highway 5 between Taupo and Rotorua," says Inspector Phil Edwards/

"Officers stopped the vehicle just south of Highlands Loop Road.

"A firearm was located and the four occupants were taken into custody."

Police would still like to hear from anyone who has video footage of the disorderly behaviour in Taupo about 9.35am.

Police are “following lines of enquiry” following an alleged gang fight.

Officers were called to a disorder on Te Heuheu Street in Taupo at 9.35am.

“A group of people, reportedly gang members, were seen fighting with weapons,” says a police spokesperson.

“A firearm was seen but at this stage, police do not believe it was discharged.

“The group left the scene prior to police arrival but officers are following lines of enquiry.”

There will be a continued police presence in the area as investigations are ongoing and officers conduct reassurance patrols, says the spokesperson.

Police would like to hear from anyone from anyone who may have video of the incident.
