Greerton fire deemed accidental

UPDATED 9.03AM: A fire at a car wreckers in Greerton is now out.

Firefighters were called to the commercial premise on Glenlyon Ave just before 8am.

A fire spokesperson at the scene says the fire started as a result of an accident at the car wreckers.

'We arrived, car was on a hoist, the crews got in there and knocked it down very quickly, and then it was just ventilating the area.

'The fire has been confined to one little area, and the fire is now out.

'We're happy, it was just an accident.”

Police were called to help with cordons while firefighters dealt with the fire. These have now been stood down.

Reports are coming in of a large fire in Greerton.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there is a large fire at the car wreckers on Glenlyon Ave.

"People should avoid the area."

A police spokesperson they were notified of a fire at a commercial premises on Glenlyon Ave at 7.47am.

It is understood some cordons have been established around the fire scene while firefighters battle the blaze.
