A burst water main on Drive Crescent is impacting residents and businesses in the Tauranga CBD.

People in the surrounding area are being advised to not consume any discoloured water.

"There was a water mains break on Drive Crescent near the Council car park at 4am this morning, which was shut down at 5.50am," says Tauranga City Council water services manager, Peter Bahrs.

"There could be some discoloured water in the system for increased flow, arising from the break, removing the iron and manganese film that naturally settles on the inside of the pipes.

"Anyone who has discoloured water should contact the Tauranga City Council call centre and we can get a maintenance contracter to undertake a flush of the pipes."

A local hospitality business tells SunLive that the burst main has had a large impact on their daily operation.
