Update, 5pm: The road is now clear following a serious crash at the intersection of Mill Road and State Highway 30, Whakatane.
One person has been transported to hospital with serious injuries.
The other people involved have sustained minor injuries.
Police thank motorists for their patience while emergency services attended the scene.
Earlier, 2.31pm: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash at the intersection of SH 30 and Mill Road in Whakatane.
A Police spokesperson says initial indications are there are serious injuries.
"Diversions are in place at Mill Road and SH30 and Huna Road and SH 30.
"Motorists are advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible," they say.
