Telecom's customers are being reminded that the providers CDMA network is set to close at midnight tonight.
From midnight CDMA customers will no longer be able to make or receive calls (including emergency calls), send texts or use mobile data.
Telecom's acting chief executive officer Chris Quin says the company is pleased with the uptake on its XT network, and feels there is high awareness among customers that the CDMA network is closing.
'Our stores have been very busy over the last few weeks, and we thank those customers who made the switch early on,” says Chris.
'With the amount of communication we have sent to customers and had in the market, we feel we have covered as many bases as possible to inform customers.
'We still encourage remaining customers to move to XT by visiting one of our Telecom stores, as there are exclusive deals available exclusively to CDMA customers until tonight.
Chris says Telecom would like to advise customers that after the closure they may still see coverage bars on their device while the network is powered-down in the next few weeks.
'Customers should also be aware that we can't guarantee their individual mobile number will be available after today.”
Customers can check if they are on the CDMA network by calling *333.
Once customers have moved to XT, they can take their old CDMA phone to a Telecom store so it can be recycled into essential equipment and services for kids at Starship Hospital.
CDMA customers will not be able to access their voice messages from their CDMA device after midnight when the network closes.
Telecom does however have the ability to put important voice messages onto CD's if customers wish, but there is a customer charge for this service.
Customers' prepaid balance will expire when the network closes at midnight. However, Telecom understands some customers may not have a chance to use all their prepaid credit. As an act of goodwill, if they have a high prepaid credit balance after the closure, they can contact Telecom to discuss a refund until 31 October 2012.
For further information on the network closure, customers can visit www.telecom.co.nz/cdma or visit their local Telecom store.
