Walkways behind Wharepai Domain, near Takitimu Drive, will be closed next week.

Tauranga City Council is planning the removal of a large pine tree on the embankment between Wharepei Domain and Takitumu Drive, near the Waikareao Estuary.

This is scheduled to take place on May 3.

"To safely remove the dying tree, a large crane will be used requiring the closure of some walkways while the works take place, including the closure of the pedestrian overbridge adjacent to the site," says a statement from the council.

The work will take place from 7.30am until 5pm.

"Signage will be in place advising of the closure and pedestrians should use an alternative route during this time."

These works are weather dependent with an alternate day of May 4.
