Students 4 the Environment, a project organised by the Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise, is providing opportunities for students wanting to make a positive contribution to conservation and the environment.
Today between 9.30am and 12.30pm, the students will be joining in with a dune rehabilitation program at Mount Maunganui, organised by Coast Care.
"If Omicron has been restricting your social life and attendance at school, here's your chance to round up some high school friends and work off some energy and frustration, have some fun and make your mark on our coastal environment," says a Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise spokesperson.
The students are meeting at Yale Street, Mount Maunganui, and are asked to bring their own water, sunscreen and closed shoes, with morning tea provided by the Rotary club.

The Students 4 the Environment programme, which was initiated in 2021 by the Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise has already involved students helping at K Valley.
"This programme will continue to involve Sunday mornings events, in cooperation with local
environment care groups, once a month," says Rotary club member Michele Beaton.
"The aim is to give secondary students from Year 9 up and tertiary students the chance to volunteer their time and energy and express their views, through their actions, on what needs to happen to protect their environment as climate change wreaks havoc."
Michele and the club are planning for Students 4 the Environment events to run from March to November during 2022.
"We plan to include a number of K Valley based events in the programme and develop a sense of ownership of the area among the students."
