If you have Covid-19 symptoms get tested say Tauranga MP Simon Bridges and Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller.

The two MPs are visiting the Covid-19 testing station and the Tauranga South Community Patrol car boot sale at Tauranga Racecourse. The testing station is open until 4pm.

'We want everyone to know, Covid is here so if you have symptoms get tested, and if you're not already, get vaccinated,” says Bridges.

'It's also important we keep a sense of perspective and normality, attending things we otherwise would have and supporting local. We'll get through this together.”

Tauranga Racecourse and Mount Maunganui Sports Centre are both operating testing sites on Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 4pm.

On Friday there was unprecedented demand at testing centres across the city following the announcement of positive Covid-19 cases in Tauranga.

NZ update

The Ministry of Health announced that a weak positive Covid-19 result picked up in Wellington as part of routine surveillance testing.

The weak positive case is an essential worker from Auckland, working in Wellington.

On Friday 198 Covid-19 new cases were announced in the Delta community outbreak in Auckland, Waikato, Northland, Bay of Plenty, Wairarapa and Canterbury.

South Island ICU teams are nervous with how they will cope with the spread of Delta when Auckland borders reopen in mid-December, however, health board leaders and some Covid-19 modellers have expressed confidence the spread of Delta will be limited in the South Island.

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson confirmed more businesses in Auckland will be able to open in the days following an announcement from Cabinet on November 29.

"The businesses I've been talking to have been preparing for that week and that's the right thing to do," says Robertson.

Vaccination rates

On Friday, Auckland DHB became the first district health board in the country to reach 90 per cent fully vaccinated for people over the age of 12.

More than 381,000 people in Auckland DHB were vaccinated with their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

As of Friday, the Māori population in the Auckland DHB are 755 doses short of reaching 90 per cent of first doses. Pasifika are 1035 shy of 90 per cent.

In total, more than 3.4 million New Zealanders are fully vaccinated, and over 7.2 million doses of the vaccine have been administered.

Global toll

Data from Johns Hopkins University shows more than 256.4 million people have been infected with Sars-CoV-2, and 5.1 million have died.

Vaccination efforts are continuing with more than 7.6 billion doses administered around the world.

The United States continues to record the most cases and fatalities - 47.5 million cases and 769,484 deaths.

India and Brazil also have some of the highest infection and death counts - 34.4 million infections and 465,082 deaths in India, and 21.9 million cases and 612,144 deaths in Brazil.

Anyone who wants to get tested can find their local testing centres by visiting the Ministry of Health website.

Mask wearing and social distancing is advised.

Quarantine-free travel from Australia has been suspended.
