A second school in the Tauranga region has been impacted by the new community Covid-19 outbreak.

SunLive understands that a parent of a child that attends Te Puna School in Te Puna has potentially tested positive for Covid-19.

A communication went out to parents from the school last night stating a positive case had been identified in a parent.

However, Te Puna School has not been advised to close by the Ministry of Health or Ministry of Education as the risk is considered low.

Whilst the children of the parent did attend school this week they are said to be asymptomatic.

SunLive understands there has not yet been formal confirmation of a positive test from the Ministry of Health or Ministry of Education however parents were made aware out of caution and so they could make an informed decision regarding their children's attendance.

Whilst the school remains open, some parents are believed to have taken the decision to keep their children at home, whilst a gymnastics session in the school hall this morning has been cancelled.

The news comes amid two positive cases of Covid-19 being confirmed in the community yesterday, one in Mount Maunganui and one in Tauranga.

Tahatai Coast School in Pāpāmoa is closed today due to the strong possibility of a positive Covid-19 result from within the school community.

The principal of Tahatai Coast School, Matt Skilton, published a notice to the school's website on Thursday evening explaining the closure, after being informed of the risk by Ministry of Health.

A testing station will be in operation specifically for Tahatai Whānau today, located in the 'Kiss'n'Go' area at the front of Tahatai Coast School from 9am – 6pm.
