A 36-year-old man is facing drug and firearm charges following an armed police operation in Tauranga.

"Tauranga Police would like to thank the public for their patience during a temporary road closure on Chadwick Road, Greerton, this morning," says a police spokesperson.

"The road was closed for about an hour while a pre-planned search warrant was being executed with the assistance of the Armed Offenders Squad.

"A 36-year-old male was arrested and will be appearing at Tauranga District Court today, charged with firearms and drug related offences.

"Police are not able to comment further, as the matter is now before the Court."
